Sophie Briggs
I am a geologist, researcher, and educator committed to connecting people with their natural surroundings through teaching, educational outreach, and field-based interpretation.
My experience includes research on the tectonic evolution of the Southern Alps of New Zealand, teaching Earth Science courses at both university and high school levels, and interpretation and outreach with the NZ Department of Conservation.
I received my B.Sc. (First Class Honors) in Geology and diploma in Spanish language from the University of Otago in New Zealand, and my PhD at UCSB working with John Cottle. Visit John Cottle's research website, or read more about our group's work in Antarctica on the UCSB Geologists On Ice blog.
