I have over five years of experience as a teaching assistant and instructor of a wide variety of Earth Science courses, taught both at university and high school levels. I have also been involved in outreach activities at local primary/elementary schools and the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History.

Outreach School for Scientific Thought, CSEP, UCSB: This five week course, facilitated by the Center for Science and Engineering Partnerships at UCSB, introduces high school students to concepts in Earth Science that extend beyond what is typically learned in the high school science classroom. In this course we explored a range of current techniques that geologists use to address Earth Science problems. We introduce students to accessible software such as Google Earth, common geologic tools such as the Brunton compass and optical microscope, and state-of-the-art instruments such as the Scanning Electron Microscope, with the objective of inspiring students to pursue college level study while teaching them skills they can use for life, regardless of the path they choose. Science Night, Santa Barbara Elementary Schools: A free event for the community where exhibitors offer hands-on, experimental exploration for children (and parents) of all ages. We exhibit fossils, a T. rex skull cast, mineral and rock specimens, optical microscopes and rock thin sections, and a live accelerometer which students can use to measure ground shaking during their own simulated earthquake, |
